About the BSP

Welcome to the British Society for Phenomenology. The BSP is an international, independent academic society, which seeks, via its conferences and journal, to promote awareness of, study of phenomenology and other cognate arms of the European tradition. Through its journal, the Journal of the British Society of Phenomenology, we public articles and book reviews in the field of phenomenology, contemporary European Philosophy, social philosophy, aesthetics, hermeneutics, and other associated branches of philosophical research.

We work to provide a friendly and supportive forum for inter-disciplinary discussion amongst those with broad philosophical interests. We take pride in our conferences which combine informality with academic rigour.  Previous speakers have included Hans-Georg Gadamer, Jacques TaminIaux, John Sallis and Paul Ricoeur. We do have a conference forthcoming in September, which is open to all. Registration information is available here.

We are actively seeking to broaden our membership and our remit. We always welcome new members within or without the academy, and all members receive a free subscription to our journal. The society is managed by an elected executive. Executive meetings take place twice a year and the AGM normally takes place at the annual conference. If you have enquiries about the work of The British Society for Phenomenology, have suggestions for future conference themes, principal speakers and work-shops or just want further information, please visit our contact page.
