BSP Annual UK Conference 2025

The British Society for Phenomenology invites the submission of expressions of interest to host our UK Annual Conference in 2025.

Call for Expressions of Interest to host the BSP UK Annual Conference 2025

The BSP UK Annual Conference is a longstanding and respected feature of the UK academic scene, providing a friendly and supportive forum for inter-disciplinary discussion. Each year we convene an annual conference by way of collaboration with a different university within the UK, co-funding and co-organising the event with a representative of the host university.

At the event, we actively seek to explore the interface between the theory and history of phenomenology and its practice by professionals of many fields; and will welcome papers exploring academic phenomenological / post-phenomenological research and from those applying phenomenological methods in practical fields as diverse as medicine, healthcare, and law.

Recent keynote speakers have included Shaun Gallagher (University of Memphis), Sara Heinämaa (University of Jyväskylä), Dan Zahavi (University of Copenhagen), Mariana Ortega (Penn State), and Alia Al-Saji (McGill University).

Over recent years the BSP has held the annual conference at the University of Brighton, the University of Kent, the University of Exeter, and Manchester Metropolitan University. In 2024 DETAILS COMING SOON.

For 2025, we are looking for initial expressions of interest from UK based academics in the field of phenomenology who would like to host the annual conference in late August / early September of that year.

The deadline for submission is end of May 2024.

Format
> The UK annual conference in intended to run over three days, and may or may not be single track or parallel sessions depending upon response to the CfP and the submission and selection of quality abstracts.
> Each year there will be a theme. This theme is set by the representative of the host university as part of the application process.
> The conference aims to secure three to five high profile keynotes and the selection is divided equitably between the host university and the BSP.
> Keynote sessions are stand-alone and are scheduled at 1.5 hours, with a paper and Q&As each around 45 minutes. Speakers are organised into themed panels (or may propose pre-constituted panels), most usually with 20 minutes to present and 10 minutes Q&Asm but this can be extended to 45 minuter slots.
